Migraine & Headaches

What are migraines and headaches?

Migraines and chronic headaches can have a significant impact on daily life, affecting work, sleep, concentration and overall wellbeing.

While many headaches respond to lifestyle changes or medication, some people experience frequent or chronic symptoms that may benefit from a broader medical assessment and, where appropriate, additional treatment options.

Why do they happen?

Headaches and migraines can have many different causes.

These may include:

  • Migraine disorders
  • Muscle tension
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching)
  • Stress
  • Hormonal changes
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Underlying medical conditions

Why treating the cause matters

Not all headaches are migraines.

Not all migraines are driven by muscle tension.

Understanding the type of headache you experience, how often it occurs and what may be contributing to it helps us determine whether treatment is appropriate and, if so, which approach is most likely to help.

Our aim is not simply to relieve symptoms, but to understand the factors contributing to them wherever possible.

How do we assess it?

Every consultation begins with understanding.

Your assessment may include:

  • Detailed medical consultation
  • Review of your symptoms and headache history
  • Assessment of headache frequency and triggers
  • Examination of facial and neck muscle tension
  • Medical history and current medications
  • Referral where appropriate if further investigation is required

Our approach

Our approach begins with understanding the type of headache you have and whether muscle tension is contributing to your symptoms.

For carefully selected patients, muscle-relaxing treatment may help reduce the frequency or severity of chronic migraine or tension-related headaches. Where appropriate, this forms part of a broader management strategy developed alongside your medical history and overall health.

Every recommendation is evidence-based, individually assessed and focused on improving both quality of life and long-term wellbeing.
