What changes around the eyes?
The eyes are often one of the first areas to show signs of ageing. The skin is thinner, collagen declines earlier, and changes in the surrounding structures can make the eyes appear tired, heavy or less refreshed.
Common concerns include dark circles, hooded eyelids, under-eye hollows, puffiness, fine lines and crepey skin.
Although these concerns often look similar, they rarely have the same underlying cause.
Why does it happen?
The appearance of the eyes is influenced by several factors, including:
- Skin ageing and collagen loss
- Volume loss
- Skin laxity
- Genetics
- Muscle activity
- Pigmentation
- Vascular changes
- Fluid retention
- Lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress
Why treating the cause matters
Often, more than one factor contributes at the same time.
Dark circles aren’t always caused by pigmentation.
Puffiness isn’t always caused by excess fat.
Heavy eyelids aren’t always caused by loose skin.
Treating the visible concern without understanding what is driving it may improve the appearance temporarily, but it may not produce the most natural or long-lasting result.
Understanding the cause allows us to choose the most appropriate treatment—or combination of treatments—for your individual anatomy.
How do we assess it?
Every consultation begins with understanding.
Your assessment may include:
- Medical consultation
- Full facial assessment
- Dynamic facial assessment
- Medical photography
- Advanced skin analysis
- Review of previous treatments
- Lifestyle and medical history
Our approach
Our goal is to understand not simply what concerns you about your eyes, but what anatomical changes are contributing to their appearance.
As part of our philosophy, we do not offer under-eye filler. While it may appear to provide a simple solution, we believe there are often better ways to address the underlying cause of tired-looking eyes, whether that is improving skin quality, stimulating collagen, restoring structural support or, where appropriate, correcting excess eyelid skin surgically.
Our approach considers every layer contributing to the appearance of the eye area, from skin quality and collagen to muscle activity, volume, pigmentation and eyelid anatomy.
Every recommendation is evidence-based, carefully sequenced and tailored to preserve natural expression while restoring a fresher, more rested appearance.

Zarya Insight
The eyes rarely age for one reason alone. Skin quality, muscle activity, volume, pigmentation and eyelid anatomy all influence how the eye area looks. Understanding which factors are contributing allows us to recommend treatments that look natural, preserve expression and age gracefully.
