Lips

What changes happen to the lips?

The lips change naturally throughout life. Volume gradually reduces, the borders become less defined, hydration decreases and the upper lip may lengthen with age, making the lips appear thinner and less supported.

These changes often affect the balance and harmony of the lower face, rather than the lips alone.

Why does it happen?

Changes in the lips are influenced by several factors, including:

  • Natural ageing
  • Reduced collagen production
  • Bone and soft tissue changes
  • Genetics
  • Sun damage
  • Lifestyle factors such as smoking

Why treating the cause matters

Every person ages differently, and not every lip concern is caused by volume loss.

Not every lip concern requires more filler.

For some people, hydration and skin quality are the priority. For others, restoring subtle support may produce the most natural result. In some cases, the concern is not the lips themselves but an elongated upper lip, where adding volume alone may create an unnatural appearance.

Understanding what is driving the concern allows us to recommend the most appropriate treatment while preserving facial harmony.

How do we assess it?

Every consultation begins with understanding.

Your assessment may include:

  • Medical consultation
  • Full facial assessment
  • Facial proportions and symmetry
  • Lip movement assessment
  • Medical photography
  • Review of previous treatments

Our approach

Rather than looking at the lips in isolation, we assess how they relate to the rest of the face.

We believe beautiful lips should complement the face, not dominate it.

Our approach focuses on natural proportion, movement and harmony. We favour subtle enhancement that respects your individual anatomy and avoids an overfilled appearance.

Where appropriate, we may recommend hydration, regenerative treatments or carefully placed filler. For patients whose concerns relate to changes in upper lip length rather than volume, we also offer consultant-led upper lip lift surgery as part of our advanced procedures.

Every recommendation is evidence-based, carefully considered and designed to create elegant, natural-looking results.

Zarya Insight

Beautiful lips aren’t defined by volume alone. Shape, proportion, movement and harmony all influence how natural the result looks. Sometimes the most effective treatment isn’t adding more volume—it’s choosing a completely different approach.
