Leg Thread Veins
What are leg thread veins?
Leg thread veins (spider veins) are small, visible blood vessels that develop close to the surface of the skin. They most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles.
Why does it happen?
They may be influenced by:
- Genetics
- Hormonal changes
- Pregnancy
- Ageing
- Prolonged standing
- Underlying venous disease
Why treating the cause matters
Not all leg thread veins are simply cosmetic.
For some patients, they may indicate underlying venous insufficiency. Understanding the cause helps ensure the most appropriate treatment and, where necessary, appropriate referral before cosmetic treatment.
How do we assess it?
Assessment may include:
- Medical consultation
- Clinical examination
- Medical photography
- Assessment for signs of venous disease
Our approach
Our approach begins with understanding whether the concern is purely cosmetic or whether further vascular assessment is appropriate. We then recommend the most suitable treatment to improve both appearance and long-term vascular health.
Recommended Treatments
A personalised, connected plan.
Technology
Vascular Laser (Excel V+ where appropriate)
Referral
Vascular specialist referral if clinically indicated
