Neck Bands
What are neck bands?
Neck bands are the vertical bands that become more visible as we age, particularly when speaking, smiling or clenching the neck muscles. They can contribute to a more aged appearance and reduce the definition between the jawline and neck.
While they become more noticeable over time, they are not simply a sign of ageing.
Why do they happen?
Neck bands develop as a result of changes affecting both the muscles and supporting tissues of the neck.
These may include:
- Increased activity of the platysma muscle
- Reduced collagen and skin elasticity
- Skin laxity
- Natural ageing
- Genetics
- Weight fluctuations
Why treating the cause matters
Not all neck bands are caused by the same underlying changes.
For some people, the primary concern is muscle activity. For others, reduced skin support or skin laxity plays a much greater role.
Understanding what is driving the concern allows us to recommend the most appropriate treatment—or combination of treatments—to improve neck definition while maintaining natural movement.
How do we assess it?
Every consultation begins with understanding.
Your assessment may include:
- Medical consultation
- Assessment of platysma muscle activity
- Dynamic assessment of the neck
- Medical photography
- Skin quality assessment
- Review of previous treatments
Our approach
Our approach begins with understanding what is driving the concern.
Depending on your individual assessment, we may recommend muscle-relaxing treatment, collagen stimulation, skin tightening technologies or regenerative treatments to improve support and definition across the neck and jawline.
Every recommendation is evidence-based, carefully sequenced and tailored to your individual anatomy, with the aim of achieving natural, balanced results.

Zarya Insight
Neck bands are not simply lines in the skin. They often reflect the interaction between muscle activity, skin quality and structural support. Understanding which factors are contributing allows us to create a treatment strategy that looks natural and works in harmony with the rest of the face.
