Sensitive Skin

What is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin is not always a skin type. More often, it is a sign that the skin’s protective barrier has become compromised or that underlying inflammation has increased the skin’s reactivity.

It may present as redness, dryness, stinging, burning, itching or discomfort, particularly after using skincare products or exposure to environmental triggers.

Why does it happen?

Sensitive skin can develop for many different reasons.

These may include:

  • Skin barrier dysfunction
  • Rosacea
  • Inflammation
  • Overuse of active skincare ingredients
  • Genetics
  • Hormonal changes
  • Environmental factors
  • Allergies or irritants

Why treating the cause matters

In many cases, more than one factor is contributing at the same time.

Sensitive skin isn’t simply a condition to soothe.

For some people, the primary issue is a weakened skin barrier. For others, inflammation, rosacea, allergies or unsuitable skincare products may be driving the problem.

Simply changing moisturisers or avoiding active ingredients may provide temporary relief, but lasting improvement often depends on identifying and addressing the underlying cause.

Understanding why your skin has become sensitive allows us to build a more personalised strategy that supports healthier, more resilient skin over time.

How do we assess it?

Every consultation begins with understanding.

Your assessment may include:

  • Medical consultation
  • Advanced skin analysis
  • Assessment of skin barrier health
  • Review of your current skincare routine
  • Medical and lifestyle history
  • Assessment for underlying inflammatory skin conditions

Our approach

Our aim is to understand not only how your skin behaves, but why it has become more reactive.

We don’t believe sensitive skin should simply be managed by avoiding products.

Our approach focuses on restoring skin health first. Depending on your individual assessment, this may include repairing the skin barrier, reducing inflammation, simplifying your skincare routine and introducing evidence-based treatments gradually as your skin becomes healthier and more resilient.

Every recommendation is designed to improve not only how your skin looks, but how it functions.
