Acne Scars

What are acne scars?

Acne scars develop when inflammation damages the deeper layers of the skin during the healing process. As the skin repairs itself, changes in collagen production can leave permanent depressions, irregular texture or, less commonly, raised scars.

Once active acne is under control, improving skin quality and reducing the appearance of scarring often becomes the next step in the journey.

Why do they happen?

Not everyone who develops acne develops scars.

Scarring is influenced by several factors, including:

  • The severity and duration of inflammation
  • Delayed or inadequate acne treatment
  • Genetics
  • Picking or squeezing spots
  • Individual healing response
  • Collagen production

Why treating the cause matters

Acne scars are not all the same. Ice-pick, boxcar and rolling scars each affect the skin differently and often require different approaches.

Not every acne scar should be treated in the same way.

Some scars reflect collagen loss. Others are tethered beneath the skin, while some are primarily textural. Skin quality, ongoing inflammation and pigmentation can also influence how scars appear.

Treating every scar with the same technology is unlikely to achieve the best outcome.

Understanding the type of scar, the condition of the surrounding skin and your skin’s ability to heal allows us to build a more effective and personalised treatment strategy.

How do we assess it?

Every consultation begins with understanding.

Your assessment may include:

  • Medical consultation
  • Advanced skin analysis
  • Medical photography
  • Scar type assessment
  • Skin quality assessment
  • Review of previous treatments
  • Lifestyle and medical history

Our approach

Our aim is to understand not only the scars themselves, but the condition of the skin surrounding them and its capacity to regenerate.

We don’t believe acne scars are improved with a single treatment.

Our approach combines regenerative medicine, advanced laser technology and collagen stimulation, carefully sequenced to encourage healthier skin remodelling over time.

Every recommendation is based on your scar type, skin quality and long-term goals, recognising that meaningful improvement often comes from combining treatments rather than relying on one intervention alone.

Zarya Insight

Acne scars don’t all behave in the same way—and they shouldn’t all be treated the same way. Understanding the type of scar, the quality of the surrounding skin and its ability to regenerate helps us build a strategy that is more precise, more personalised and more likely to deliver meaningful long-term improvement.
